While I had one baby at my side and other children in the cradle, I was working 12 hour shifts cleaning floors and tear off wallpaper. Ha! The house was getting closer to finishing, but the project was still a distance away. To complete this task I had planned to spend a considerable amount of money and spend time looking for my dream house. To keep within my budget, I took my boys with me to look for gems hidden in estate sales. Each week we would spend Thursday to Saturday at garage sales and estate sales, buying old and new furniture. Then I stenciled and polished in the driveway in the week. It looked a bit like this... Here is the place where my passion for restoring antique furniture started. When our home was finished, I didn't want to quit! There was an area at the local markets that I could sell my pieces. My collection eventually grew so large that the room I had was no longer adequate. I held open houses at my residence where 1 000 people could visit on a single weekend. visitors could buy anything from the first floor. Growing Days was created in this house. The business wasn't just thriving but I was growing our family of four. I was balancing the demands between what it took starting a business as well as a mother too. Growing Days fit perfectly. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. This was a fantastic direction for my business however I was also in need of an escape. I decided to quit working on my antique furniture for a while and spend time with my kids. It was exactly what I needed. After a while, without a phone, it began to ring. I was getting calls from people asking for help with decorating their homes and interior improvements. The majority of people who contacted me were from those who visited my home at one of my furniture open house events. I started taking on some clients at a time working at my own pace but it wasn't too for long to have multiple accounts and was running the complete business of home remodeling. If you had predicted that this venture of mine could become the premise of a tv show for the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. In fact, I do laugh when I think about the idea.
