Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967, in Atlanta. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer who was also the first Roberts who settled in Atlanta. At an early age, her father began to take an interest in theater. When he was a student at Emory University in 1952 he was a part of productions at Emory University and in Atlanta. While stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi he was played as a soldier in a production with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter as well as his spouse resigned from their Air Force service in 1957, after which they began enrolment with Walter as a student at Tulane University. Walter began working with Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In the year 1960, the family moved into Decatur Georgia. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou began production on a local Saturday morning children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. In 1964 Betty Lou and Walter established the Actors and Writers Workshop. The organization lasted for a total of about six years. They welcomed in 1965 two young children, Lelisa Billingsley as well as Julia Billingsley.
